Semantic resource descriptions in ORCA

Overview

ORCA relies on declarative semantic resource descriptions to enable its sophisticated resource allocation policies. ORCA's resource descriptions mechanisms are defined as OWL ontologies, with NDL - an RDF-based ontology developed at University of Amsterdam, providing a set of foundational networking abstractions. ORCA's version is called NDL-OWL. This page provides a number of pointers to web resources that enable ORCA implementation.

Semantic web tools

Here are some of the tools used by ORCA

  • Protege: an ontology construction tool developed at Stanford
  • Jena: Java semantic web framework that enables triple stored, SPARQL queries and inferences
  • Tabulator: generic semantic data browser in Javascript that implements an in-memory RDF-triple store and a SPARQL engine
  • Gleen: a set of SPARQL extensions for network path finding
